You must have gone through one of the popular memes on XR devices!! Without delaying let’s dive into the list of key issues based on the Forbes article and Michael Neblings teachings:

1. Design challenges: Designers and developers find it difficult to break through the world of extended reality due to the high barrier to entry. XR is currently witnessing slow growth reason being the technology is in the nascent stage with a very narrow passage for better practices and no set rules make it not a level playing field.

2. Technological challenges: The XR technology is almost governed by a few key players (SDKs) in the market which is responsible for developing specific platforms resulting in availability problems regarding the latest features. It is also commonly seen that XR devices currently running in the market.

3. User Adaptability: People are not yet habitual of using XR/VR/AR interfaces in the space which brings us to our issue of adoption amongst the users. On the contrary, we just can’t live with our mobile phones which XR fails of mass adoption of XR technology.

4. Privacy & Security: AR/VR devices peek into the subsequent future of humanity which is a blessing of course!! Along with the advancement of XR, technologies have brought huge threats related to data collection and privacy as compared to any other consumer technology in the market so far. We are talking about the data which indeed is very personal and confidential. It is potentially encompassing our innermost actions and thoughts.

5. Health Concerns: Using XR devices creates lots of issues for humans of which most common are nausea, disorientation, vision damage, and sometimes seizures. These do not apply to all while others experience it quite often and it can last as long as a week.

6. Legal Concerns: Law should catch up as the rapid growth of XR technologies are faster and advanced as compared to legal systems. There is no clarity of admissibility or the level of tolerance one should comply it in the XR/VR/MR space. People wearing haptic suits allow the user to feel realistic sensations if attacked or tortured in VR space which can be traumatic to users. It’s really important to work out accountability and transparency in a systematic framework.

The above challenges explained are just a glimpse of a whole lot of issues around the XR technology space. We can shape the future together by solving these problems to aid society in a more advanced manner. So here are the 3 strong moves to implement for fostering XR into our surroundings:

1. Address pitfalls: AR is a collection of multi-information gathering technologies that provide a unique experience and it can be enhanced and perceived by minimizing gaps in the XR space.

2. Set clear guidelines: Taking proactive actions to amend standards and code of conduct will embrace the adoption benefitting both users and businesses globally.

3. Show resilience: Masses should push the authentic benefits of XR to co-exist without resisting innovations in the XR technology space. The idea is to minimize problems by focusing on solutions towards the progressive future by showing flexibility.

It is important to concentrate on the light which is guiding these innovative technologies. We have to be responsible while dealing in this space to deplete ethical concerns and make it a safer platform for users. By approaching these issues and actions we can leap into the beautiful future.
